When the world wants to dim the light, we must say “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”Įrin Culleny serves as a Marketing Assistant and Staff Writer. When the world says “It’s all about me” we must say “It’s all about Jesus.” When the world says “pursue darkness” we must remember the Lord’s teachings to pursue peace and holiness (Hebrews 12:14). In the same way, we must be separate from the world. If you remember, last week I talked about how during the first day of creation, God created light and separated the light from the darkness (Genesis 1:3-4). If we walk in the darkness, we cannot see clearly and we are destined to stumble and fall. Instead, we want to reflect our true source of light, the Lord Jesus Christ. When we live in a dark, sin-sick world, we don’t want artificial light in our lives. Similar principles apply in the spiritual sense. Why would we settle for artificial light when we could produce superior results by reflecting light from our physical light source, the sun? The more we add mirrors to reflect the natural light that seeps in through the windows, the brighter the room gets. Think about it this way: if you move into a new house and there’s a dark room with only one window, how might you brighten it up? Sure, you can add lamps and brighten the walls with lighter paint colors, but that will only produce artificial light. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. We reflect what the Lord taught, what he did, and how He acted.ġ John 1:5-7 says this: “ This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. The answer I’ve found is this: God’s followers provide light to the world by reflecting the source of light – the source being the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
After all, how could I – a sinner – possess the same name as my sinless Savior? I’ve always found it amazing the the Lord Jesus Christ applies the title “Light of the World” to both Himself and His followers. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16 Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12 “ Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world.
